We don't stop at delivery.
We stay until it works on site.
XY, K.K. supports digital transformation at educational institutions through Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE). We are not a company that hands over proposals; we deliver systems that school staff can actually use.
What is Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE)?
Engineers work closely inside the client's organization, learn its operations and problems first-hand, and then build a system that fits the way the organization works, staying involved until it delivers results. That is the FDE way of building and delivering software.
It is neither "sell a standard package and walk away" nor "write a proposal and walk away." In FDE, the deliverable is not a report but a working system in daily use. Our engineers see the work the way the people doing it see it, and design together with them what should be handled by the system and what should stay with people.
The four commitments behind our FDE.
Get inside the work
We don't stop at interviews. We learn the actual workflows from the perspective of the people who do them, starting by identifying which steps are really causing trouble.
Build to fit
Instead of forcing a generic package onto an institution, we shape the system around how it operates. Our products are the foundation; we finish them into a form that really works day to day.
Stay until it delivers
We don't install, hand over and leave. We keep working with you until the system is part of daily operations, the work is easier, and the results are visible.
Feed what we learn back into the product
What we learn at one institution becomes a shared capability in the product, so we can deliver faster and better to the next one.
How is this different from
traditional consultants and system integrators?
FDE does not separate the people who advise, the people who build and the people who use the system. One team takes responsibility from understanding the work through development to adoption, closing the gap between what happens on site and the results.
Advice and development are separate
They handle recommendations and requirements; development often goes to another vendor, and operations are left to the client.
- The deliverable is a proposal, a report or a requirements document
- The workplace is analyzed from outside through interviews
- Development is outsourced to another vendor, and understanding drifts in between
- The relationship tends to end at delivery and handover
- A generic package is made to fit
One path from understanding to adoption
We understand the work, develop and deploy in-house, and stay with you until it pays off. All within one team.
- The deliverable is a working system in daily use
- We get inside the work and see it as the staff do
- We develop and deploy in-house, so little gets lost in translation
- We stay involved after go-live and take responsibility through adoption and results
- We tailor the system to each institution and turn what they share into SaaS
FDE that comes from knowing schools first-hand.
Our CEO has experienced the problems of school operations directly, as chair of an educational corporation and as an executive of an education group that welcomes more than 4,000 international students a year. That is why we can build systems from the same vantage point as school staff, rather than analyzing them from the outside.
Compass, our student application and management system, is where we put this into practice. It runs at Haba Gakuen and Hirai Gakuen (educational corporations) and at SGG Gaigo Gakuin (a Japanese language school), all operated within our own education group. We tailored it to how each institution operates and supported it through adoption. Going forward, we plan to bring what we have learned on site to more educational institutions as SaaS for CRM, academic administration, AI agents and more.
Bring FDE
to your institution.
We start by learning how you work today, then propose a realistic rollout plan. We'd be glad to hear from you.
