Our journey so far
Iken Setsu, Representative Director & CEO
Born in China, Iken Setsu graduated from Keio University and completed a master's program at the University of Tokyo. Since 2012 he has worked in study-in-Japan services, advising students on undergraduate and graduate admissions and launching and running Japanese-language education businesses.
At Recruit Co., Ltd. he worked in corporate sales and web marketing before moving into business planning and new business development. He then joined the management of educational institutions and has run several education businesses, including Japanese language schools and vocational colleges.
Today he helps lead an education group that welcomes more than 4,000 international students a year, and serves as chair of an educational corporation and as representative of several education-related companies. Years of this work showed him how much schools struggle with complex administration and with operations that depend on a few individuals, and he founded XY, K.K. to solve those problems.
He personally leads product development using AI and a modern technology stack. Systems for educational institutions, starting with Compass, our student application and management system, are built in-house by a small team with AI-assisted development. His work spans workflow automation, internal knowledge retrieval with RAG (retrieval-augmented generation), LLM tuning, and building and deploying on-premise AI, putting AI agents to work in real school operations.
